All in the mind...

On a dull, damp weekend, what better than to visit Carrie, to see what is afoot... And the prompt picture subject is a four-footed being, just waiting for me to come out of retirement to play! With apologies for seeing (and capturing) the unexpected angle...

The Shaman

In dreamtime, he enters a Sacred Space,
far from the baying hounds of whirling Dark.
He summons forth great Spirit Energies;
"Come, instil in us the Hunter's Power -
give us silent, padding feet as we stalk,
ever cautious, towards our wary prey.
Let our arrows fly true, kill with mercy
the wild beasts on whom our survival rests."

With his ancestral gods, his mind entwines
and travels far beyond those realms in which
the anxious hunters wait for his return...

    1. Standing on one's head always gives the image something new - or, more easily, flip the picture upside down, as I did here. LOL
      Thanks for visiting. :-)

  2. Ha, we have both been thinking of the dreamtime this week. (Mine was not for this link.) This poem comes from an interesting angle, that of the hunter. I held my breath for the wolf's safety as I read. He is wily. I think he got away. Smiles.

    1. The wolf was never in danger here. The hunters were after bigger prey, and only needed some of the wolf's cunning, I guess...

  3. A mysterious and magical poem that does well describe the worries of the wolf. So glad you came to the Muse and joined the fun Jinksy!!

    1. Not sure the wolf needs to worry - unless the hunters were after his luscious pelt...
It will take larger game to fill their empty cooking pots!
(You can tell, I came straight from the stone age! lol)

  7. I fear not for wolf (live or die). She lives wild and would live no other way. With that comes death bringers -- feathered, lightninged, two-legged, contagious -- each part and parcel with wild living. I also fear not for the wolf, for she is able to disappear into the woods -- a true wolf spirit.

    1. Some of that wolf spirit is what the hunters were hoping to acquire for themselves, for what better symbol of strength and hunting know-how is there, other than the cunning wolf? :-)

  8. Calling for the arrows to hit.... but only for food thast is needed...
Wish people only consumed for need.

    1. Exactly - Man is not the only creature in the Food Chain of life, where killing for need, not sport, is the norm. You understood completely, my thinking on this subject. ♥

  9. Fear not for the wolf as they are known to be shapeshifters and can blend into the surroundings. I think the hunter(shaman) was seeking the power of the wolf (instinct). Interesting write. most enjoyable, thanks for posting...

  10. You can take wolf out of the hunt but you can't take the hunt out of the wolf. I am not sure why folk are afraid of wolves, unless they are rabid they are rather timid towards humans.
Been thinking of you a bit, I hope you have been to Peppa Pig World lately, I would if I were there. It is excellent for taking grandkids.

  11. You certainly shifted the shape of that Mister Wolf. Very interesting poem, too, for the wolf himself is a hunter, is he not?

  12. Great inspiration from the prompt, just as the wolf is inspiration for your Shaman. - I am intrigued by your photo.

  13. Yes, Doc Ftse, wolves hunt to perfection. :-) But Blogger would not let me reply to your kind comment ... Cheek!

And Marion, the upside down wolf head was the area I played with, and as soon as this changed version hit my eyes, the inspiration arrived, boom, boom.
An alteration to a given image sends my mind on unusual pathways, as often as not.
The photoshop option I used to achieve this, was a 'Custom Styleizer',for it does magical things to both image and colours, which the artist in me finds irresistible. Hope this explanation helps encourage you to play too. :-)
