That's what we had to remember to do with all our clocks and /or watches this morning - a kind of countrywide Time Warp. Why the witching hour of 2am was chosen for this this event, I have no idea. Can you imagine, everyone, in theory, sitting waiting for the hour to arrive simply in order to move the clock hands to the one o'clock position? Ludicrous!
I would bet my bottom dollar that, this morning, there will be a fair number of people still living their life an hour in advance of the rest of us, in blissful ignorance until either TV or radio reminds them to change this theoretical hour of the day. Trouble is, body clocks have their own schedule, and it was no use telling mine last night that it had to re-adjust itself at 2am. When it decided I should wake up, that's what I did, despite the fact that my self-regulating clock radio had made the magical switch-over at 2am, and was insisting it was only five in the morning, my internal clock was telling me it was six, and I'd had enough sleep for the time being...
I shall spend the whole day living under the delusion that I've 'gained' an extra hour - a bonus gift from the scientifically minded souls who decreed time should be measured, and managed, in this bewildering manner.
In reality, all I've gained is a strange, not-quit-belonging-to-now sensation, where my body will be expecting meal times as usual, but my clocks will be saying 'Wait! You can't have a meal yet - it's far too early!'
Yes, so hard to remember and expect people for lunch and accuse THEM of being late and so forth.....I am in the US and, so far as I can discover so far (only just before 8am --maybe?!) the clocks weren't put back this week.
ReplyDeleteHave you thought of adding photos to your amusing and interesting blog?
We don't change our time this time of year. In fact I was under the impression that George W. Bush did away with this nonsense but my kids tell me not so.
ReplyDeletehello jinky - our turn comes up early november. as it is the day begins dark until 7 and ends dark by 7 or sooner if it's cloudy. two more months 'till the shortest day!!! have a peaceful if not discombobulated day! steven
ReplyDeleteWe're still waiting for that extra hour. Like you, it won't do me much good.
ReplyDeleteWe always put the clocks back at the time we retire (around 11pm) and I did get a feel of lovely extra hour this morning but I would sooner have the extra time of light in the evening!
ReplyDeleteNuts in May
We've 'gained' an hour too. Good of you to remind me. I still have to put my watch right. The purpose of this messing with time is beyond me. But to be the only one rebelling against this weird system could prove to be a bit unpractical ;-)
ReplyDeleteI never did like daylight saving....thankfully we don't have it here. We're all in bed too early!!

ReplyDeleteWe change ours next week-end. I always start around nine pm on Sat. night. Like you said, who's up at 2am to change them. Plus we're not gaining anything, we're losing an hour. We use to change them around the first part of Oct. It's going to take my body at least a month to adjust. For some reason stupid George, shortened the time when we change back, it use to be in April, he made it for March. I say why even bother messing with the clocks. Leave them alone, set for the time now and don't change them again. Like you said, we'll want to be eating at the wrong time and think it's time for bed when it isn't. Hate time switching. Happy Sunday.
ReplyDeleteJust about my feelings too Jinksy. I always feel it is worse in the Spring when they go forward. The trouble is that the mornings are now so light that you feel like getting up early and then tonight it will be dark so early that I shall feel like going to bed by eight o/clock. A bit like Jet lag I think.
ReplyDeletei'm so glad we don't have daylight savings time...
ReplyDeletehaha we change clocks next weekend (halloween, no less)...completely understand where you are coming from, always prefer the falling back in place of the spring forward (added sleep opposed to less)?? definately the only reason...maybe one day we can all for-go this timely event
ReplyDeleteHi...ours (USA) changes too...but not this weekend. It is always frustrating for me....but once I get used to it, I like it...and then I don't want to change it forward in the spring...and then I get used to it, and I don't want to change it back in the fall. I think it is supposed to 'give' us more daylight time....to 'work'...:))
ReplyDeleteI always change all our clocks before I go to bed that night. Thankfully, the computers are smarter than me! They change the times themselves. We have a couple of clocks that do that, too. Now, if I could get them to change the sheets (wash and dry them) and put them on the bed, we'd be in 'bizzznes'. :)
Hugs and smiles to you from Jackie
Hello Jinksy,
ReplyDeleteWe had to adjust clocks at 3am, that is 1 hour later than you had to.
Didn't I see a Mr. Been film on this topic one time? If I didn't I should have done. It is now 20:44 whatever that means.
Gerald England wrote an amusing poem called SLEEPLESS IN LIMBO about all this once. He gave me permission to put it on my blog. The blog search box will bring it up.
What? you mean to say you weren't up at 2 to change the clocks?
ReplyDeleteBenno wants his meals at just the same time as always and his walkies too. Rotten idea altogether, I wish we would stop messing about with the clocks once and for all.
We change when the U.S. does on Nov.1 at 2 a.m. I don't mind that they've extended DST. It just makes evening walks a bit brighter.. until next week.
ReplyDeleteOur clocks change next week.....you think you feel bad think of the poor cows waiting an extra hour to be milked and fed....stupid idea to mess with Mother Nature......:-) Hugs
ReplyDeleteHello Jinksy, it usually takes me all day to get used to the new timing and yesterday was no exception. I went to bed at 9.30 pm, which was really 10.30 pm!? and slept straight through - exhausted with the readjustment of it all. Let's hope we all feel better today. I woke up this morning and of course it was lighter. The sun is shining and all will be well until the night draws in quicker than it should...
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Star
I just enjoy getting up before dawn no matter what...and adjust my going to bed time to that.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have daylight's savings time in Arizona.
ReplyDelete"time should be measured, and managed, in this bewildering manner."
ReplyDeleteHA! Time is too willful to me managed at all. But it is rather funny watching us all try. I think of us jumping on top of a bull with a feather duster. Not much chance of us winning, is there?
