Sometimes a Candid Camera shot is more fun than a Posed Portrait. This one goes back in the mists of time, to when one of my relations got married.
My cousin Betty is the lady with the navy and white hat, which suddenly proved bothersome. The large bow adorning the back of it got entangled with the collar of her suit, and shot the whole thing askew over her silky soft hair. I caught the moment when her hand had just set it to rights, but it was only later that I realised I'd included my husband's mammoth yawn in the photo as well!
In fact the whole composition speaks volumes, from the small, grumbly boy in the foreground being firmly kept from mischief by an elderly retainer, to the dangling camera case of another amateur photographer in the lower right hand corner.
But I can't help chuckling further at what looks like a loo seat hanging on the church wall in the top left segment, nor the short lady below it who appears to be wearing either a lamp shade, or a mob cap on her head! Don't weddings bring out the best in people?
I hope my choice of Sepia Saturday snapshot will give you all a grin as big as mine when I unearthed it this morning...
Oh absolutely a great chuckle...a good morning opener! The gentleman with open mouth looks very intent on saying something...curious to know what! I can't believe on Saturday morning, I posted a 5 am our time and already there were 20 posts! Wow! Alan sure has a bunch of great followers who get their posts in early! This was a nice treat...who doesn't love weddings right?!
ReplyDeleteThat is an excellent photograph, very funny too!
ReplyDeleteFurther proof that reality is more intriguing than the artificial images we usually capture when we ask people to pose for the camera.
ReplyDeleteIt also looks like the lady in the very center can't wait to light up, but maybe not.
ReplyDeleteJinksy, You've created an ink blot test. I predict that someone will soon find pickpocket at work in the crowd.
ReplyDeleteFabulous post Pen - these unposed shots do indeed speak much more then the offical ones!
ReplyDeleteThe photo is wonderful, Jinksy, and serves its purpose -- to preserve memories. Love those hats!
ReplyDeleteIt's a great capture. Both the hat and yawn really draw the eyes in.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great candid shot! There are many stories that could come out of this one photo!
ReplyDelete;^)
I always know I'll find something amusing and interesting over here. This is such a fun photo. I like the little boy's scrunched face the best. The yawn is precious though too.
ReplyDeleteOff-guard shots are definitely the best sort of family photos !
ReplyDeleteI would hazard a guess that the little boy is being whisked off to a loo , given the Not-A-Second-To-Lose determination of his minder .
I wonder if all those features would have been noticed if they hadn't been photographed?
ReplyDeleteThat's the kind of photo that is usually discarded, but it is actually more interesting than a posed photo.
ReplyDeleteYes, sometimes you have to look at the background of a photo to find the best bits!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be just so interesting to give that picture to a bunch of people and have them describe what is happening...?
ReplyDeleteA big grin ;-)
ReplyDeleteYes, what an extraordinary variety of expressions ...
ReplyDelete*laughing!* i LOVE that photo! I especially love "off the cuff" photos - the unexpected photos that show unexpected things :-D
ReplyDeleteOh my yes. The Church of the Thrones. Of course this is the look the parishioners would have.
ReplyDeleteah, Jinksy!!
ReplyDeleteYOU GOT ME GRINNING ALRIGHT!!!
it captured my attention right away, even before i started reading your text. i love this pic!! the indifferent crowd in the back, the fashion of those days, (who wears mink nowadays???) and the boy is priceless. this is a KEEPER!!
:D~
HUGZ
Great choice for Sepia andreally funny. Weddings I have learned will always have sometihg go wrong, and the Bride/Groom, just as well enjoy and laugh about it.
ReplyDeleteHello Jinksy,
ReplyDeleteI found your blog through your repeated posts at Susan at Stony River's (now disbanded) MicroFiction Monday. Were you planning on continuing her meme? I'll surely follow you anywhere!
K A Gardner - not much good leaving me a comment with no means of my replying to you! Why not use my email address, if you'd like an answer?
ReplyDeleteWell, Jinsky, you must have my email address as I've received your reply. And thank you for doing so!
ReplyDeleteNO = K A Gardner - I don't have your email address - you must have asked to be notified of comments left on this blogpost of mine, so that Blogger sent you an email, not I!
ReplyDeleteJinsky, Eureka! That must be what has happened! Thank you, dear Blogger.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great photo. I like your explanations and enjoy your observances.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great photograph and you are right such candid shots are almost always more interesting than the carefully posed ones. As for weddings : that great comedian Al Read used to have an expression that summed them all up, it was simply "Enough was said at our Edie's wedding"
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how much is going on in that photo.. and how unaware everyone is of the fact that it was taken. Great fun here.
ReplyDeleteAn absolutely comical photo with so much to laugh about!!! I'd likely not have noticed the seat onthe wall if you'd not pointed it out! At first I spotted the little boy being curtailed, then the yawning! LOL
