A Serious Moment

This was a little something I wrote for a friend who was in a bit of a glum mood, and I decided this morning it was probably worth sharing with everyone, as we all have odd moments when we feel the same!

Admonition

Be not sad, when darkness looms. It comes
to balance times of great illumination;
that spark of brilliance which may otherwise
obscure the bigger picture with its glare.
A photograph requires tints and tones
of white and black to capture images
on paper. So life requires us to move
through shades and shadows in our search
for the brightness of an ideal world.

  4. Quite often there is more to the photo, yes? The camera can see more than we can...good piece, this :)

  5. Well said Jinksy! Our lives really do consist of shades and hues and we often have to move throught the spectrum to get to a bright spot!

  7. Nice poem. Yes, it so happens with me that I remain glum quite often due to dissapointments at work place and when I am down for too long and fed up with it, I just give up on the thought and feel the dissapointment was just part of learning process, life slamming you into shape. I think that's what you mean when you say, "So life requires us to move
through shades and shadows in our search
for the brightness of an ideal world." But, however learned you are about life or world, it's never ideal, I think.

  9. A lovely inspiring word. I remember an English essay question was to write a essay on the word compensation. I chose to compare it to the swings in life, particularly mood. Darkness is offset eventually by light. Good times vs bad times, everything leads to balance.

  10. Helpful perspective! Happiness implies sadness; light, dark; music, silence.

  11. Lovely. Words reminding us life is filled with joys and sadness. And remembering we have had joys will see us through our sadness.

  13. Wonderful writing. Key word Balance in it. I am so appreciating these words as I read so many people having difficulty bearing the long winter. To always stay the same would really be feeling nothing wouldn't it? Thanks for the lovely Admonition.

  20. Beautiful Jinksy. I love it.

I printed it off and put it on my son's bed.
He is depressed at the moment. He has no job and his girlfriend dumped him. He needs a bit of love at the moment.

    Blessings, Star

  26. Just right for me this little verse- life is certainly made up of light and shade - your poem has made ME feel better. Now I just want the light back again and see the end of the tunnel but it will come if we are brave. Sincere regards to you Jinksy

  27. You are such a wise witchy woman, Jinksy - I wish your fine words would get greater attention, e.g. a newspaper column - There's really so much bad writing out there... Love to you, x
