Listen to the news on almost any day, and there will be talk of unrest somewhere in the world; Russia and Ukraine ; kidnapped schoolgirls in Nigeria; these are but two examples we've heard of during recent days, and this made me think about how Nature copes with its differences.
Do you see plants having a battle royal over territory, or ownership? Of course not. They carry on doing their own thing, minding their own business. If only we could all live the same way...
In Harmony
Honeysuckle twines and plaits its way
through jasmine, smoke bush, lavender, hibiscus.
Foliage and flowers flourish here,
with scant respect for others' boundaries.
They intermingle, managing to grow
with minimum of fuss. No fight for food,
for space, for light, appears to stunt their growth.
The flower kingdom lives its days in peace,
with only nature's laws to shape its fate.
There's some awful things going on.
ReplyDeleteEverything's 'normal' then...sad but true. But on the reverse of that coin, there is always much that is good going on, too, if you look for it.
DeleteOh, how true, Jinksy . . . we must be on the same wavelength today . . . posted about human arrogance.
ReplyDeleteThat is a profound subject about which you posted in style... :-)
DeleteAh.. wish harmony were more common!
ReplyDeleteIf only...
DeleteTake off your rose-coloured glasses, Penny. We have two plants in these environs, namely both kudzu and wisteria, that will choke the life out of all other plants, especially trees.
ReplyDeleteAll is not sweetness and light in Nature, sad to say.
I tend to think it's laws of nature, i.e. - survival of the strongest/fittest - that come into play with your kudzu (whatever that is ) and your wisteria. The plants themselves are only intent on being able to live...
DeleteI'm with rhymeswithplague on this one. You only have to watch what happens to a garden without anyone taking care of it to know that yes, plants DO fight over land. They just do it very slowly so we don't see it happen!
ReplyDeleteSome plants might struggle for survival, but do any knowingly set out to be killers? :-)
DeleteWhat does knowingly mean for plants? Many plants put chemicals into the soil that inhibit the growth of other plants. Some plants strangle other plants.
ReplyDeletePeople who do horrible things may think they are only intent on living...
I certainly wish people would not do monstrous things to one another,(or even mean ones) but I don't especially want us to do as plants do.
We should all live in harmony and we should try to stick to *Love thy neighbour* and *do unto others what we would like to happen to ourselves*.
ReplyDeleteAs regards nature and plants though...... eventually the strongest thing overpowers the weaker plants who get crowded out. The thug plants need to be controlled if they are not to overtake everything.
Now I've ruined your analogy! sorry.

Nuts in May
Not really - it's the inborn NATURE of the plants makes then weak or strong- not their own volition... Humans have the choice as to how they behave...
DeleteSo Mother Nature is the power to blame, not the plants.
