I was also thinking that the first guy looks Dickensian. The second guy looks true to the finish cause he eats his spinach.

ReplyDeleteThe first one sure looks familiar but cannot get a name to surface. I agree they would make wonderful art for conversation pieces hanging on your wall. Boy he was a good artist.

ReplyDeleteI say Ditto to Dickens for the first; and no mistaking Popeye. Interesting and I would not have noticed or thought about the cellotape if not brought to our attention. Very nicely done!

ReplyDeleteQuite fun you have saved these. Wish I had all the old Mickey Mouse drawings my dad used to do for me. I'd sit patiently watching him draw the lines and then he'd hand it to me and talk like Donald Duck.
Is Tattered and Lost thinking of Quaker Oats? The first one does bear a resemblance to the gentleman on the packet.

Nope, not Quaker Oats which has William Penn on the box. This looks more like something from an ale or beer or spirits. Definitely British, not German.

ReplyDeleteSuch great drawings that are so full of character. I think the "cello" at the top is more authentic than a perfectly cropped image. I have no guess about the first image. The hat looks very mid 1800s, though.
