Years ago, I planted this honeysuckle in the hope that one day it would reward me with its beauty. For several summers it remained a green and sparsely creeping thing, climbing anywhere but over the metal obelisk I installed.
Last year I noticed one or two blossoms, but now it has truly understood its potential!. I zoomed in on one of its many flower heads as a test for my new, simple little Canon A800. Which passed with flying colours, I think you'll agree...
Seems as though this plant is a great reminder to us all, never to stop striving to reach our full potential, however long it may take. Plus it rewarded my eternal hope and faith that one day it would blossom just as I'd imagined! ♥
Susannah's I saw Sunday will no doubt have more delights to brighten this wet day.
Lovely picture and a beautiful and inspiring message here Jinksy! Thanks very much for sharing this with I Saw Sunday! x
ReplyDelete(Your link doesn't seem to be in the linky!? - I came here because I got the comment that you left there. Will you try to put it in the linky again? and if you have trouble let me know and I will do it for you.)
Soon, the humming-bird hawkmoth will find it. We had a visit last week from her (all the way from Africa) on the valerian.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. We eill never know our potential unless we strive to find out.
ReplyDeleteTh blossom is beautiful. Thanks for sharing. this is Munir over here at focus.
Honeysuckle is one of my favourites, for the perfume and for the insects it attracts. Yours is splendiferous, and I congratulate you for your persistance. We left one at our old house that started in a similar way, and finished by overwhelming a pergola and the adjacent shed! You may be cutting it back soon!
ReplyDeleteAfter freesias, honeysuckle is my favourite flower fragrance.
ReplyDeleteWe can learn lessons (or be reminded of them) from nature.
ReplyDeleteThat's so interesting, because I planted one of these a few years ago and it immediately took off and threatened to eat the house. And then there are other things i can't grow at all. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteInteresting Pen because we planted one about five years ago and it has been nearly dead, then suddenly this year it has put on a lot of growth and actually flowered. Maybe it heard us discussing whether or not to dig it up.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful reward for not giving up hope!
ReplyDeletebeautiful.
ReplyDeletewhat a long time to wait for a honeysuckle to bloom!! and such a gorgeous one at that....one of my favorites too. :)
ReplyDeleteblessings from sunshine ... and honeysuckle in my courtyard too but it's yellow and this same fuschia!

ReplyDeleteYour new camera seems an excellent choice . I do like Canon's colours .... they always seem more vivid .
Oh, lovely. I certainly recognize the wait for a longed for plant to offer up some blooms!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo and plant. Words of wisdom to be found both in patience and in striving.

Lovely picture, and a very profound thought. Yes, sometimes, things just take time to pan out the way we want them to, and it is important we have the patience and perseverance to keep giving our best.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful color of honeysuckle! I've never seen that one. Mine is ivory/yellow. Except that now, it's too hot to bloom!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
;^)
