Legacy
Inspiration comes unasked; it seems
to blossom freely when and where it will.
We grasp it eagerly, a passing dream
which lights our darkest night and makes us thrill
with great anticipation. With the dawn
a nascent thought may turn into reality.
We artists, labouring till our child be born,
invest it with a spark of true humanity
as we interpret with our brush or pen
its fleeting image, transcribed on a page.
If lost, such ideas may not come again,
but, once ensnared, continue to engage
the mind. And who can tell how long a time
life's pulse will live in picture or in rhyme?

one of the best on the artistic mind... so true the words of fleeting thought, if not then and there captured, forgotten and lost.
ReplyDeleteis it the characteristic of short attention span??? hmmm... lovely read today :) glad you could capture the moment for us all
such profoundness leaves me speechless ;-)
ReplyDelete...beautiful, jinksy. You write of inspiration and describe it perfectly...
ReplyDeleteLovely sonnet, Jinksy, with picture to match!
ReplyDeleteI like your mind images. I like to put myself into a Beta frame of mind in order to unlock my artistic side. That's like almost being asleep but still able to think logically, isn't it. Then, when my stories come, I can write down the notes before all those wonderful ideas disappear.
ReplyDeleteGreat poem. By the way, I enjoyed your email, but have since put it to one side to answer it and now lost it! D'oh. When I find it, I'll answer it.

first time here. I love your style. this poem reminds me of a few John Donne's poem. great piece!
ReplyDeleteIndeed. Who can tell?
ReplyDeleteYou are in fine form today, Pen. Inspiration does often come from the strangest situations, doesn't it.
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely on a roll. When you made up your mind to have pictures on your posts, you also updated your whole blog look. Maybe you did some updating inside too?? Way cool, Jinksy.
ReplyDeleteThat's some legacy you have there. Love it!
ReplyDeleteYou are an artist in more ways than one!
ReplyDeleteReally lovely.

Indeed! Cease that inspiration, and play as long as it is willing to hang around. Love the sonnet.
ReplyDeleteLove the word nascent (had to look it up).
ReplyDeleteIt is such a great feeling to be creative isn't it. Gotta go, can feel a nascent thought about to be delivered.
It may go on and on or burst like a bubble within seconds. Nice lines. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd oh the awful feeling when it's 'on the tip f your tongue' and nowhere else!
ReplyDeleteRR:-
ReplyDelete"It's on the tip of my tongue", says you.
Don't let it get away.
Spit out those words
that we've not heard -
let's hear them all today!
