Not quite! My Dad often drew crests of a different kind, when he was on board ship. I always liked this one, because of the garlanded animal... The caption reads 'Royal Warwickshire', and below the signature it says 'Fowey' - one of the ship's Dad served on.
It's another offering for Sepia Saturday, taken from my Pa's Autograph Album.
LATE EDITION EXTRA ! I've found this cap badge for The Royal Warwickshire Regiment, thanks to Google , which could be purchased for the princely sum of £7.50 ! There's lots of information available if anyone wants to know more about the regiment.

Creativity is so often a genetic thing isn't it. You are your fathers' daughter.
ReplyDeleteWhat a proud looking beast he is - your father captured the spirit perfectly :-) Jo
ReplyDeleteWhat does it say under the figure?
ReplyDeleteI've added more info on the post, Bruce, as I still have no luck with your email!
ReplyDeleteThis is great. The drawings your dad left you are so endearing, and even better that he signed each one and told which ship he was on when he did the drawing. The next generations in your family will have this treasure he passed on forever.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure trove you have here. (I know I've said that repeatedly, but, then, it's repeatedly true!) Love the way the garlanding is echoed in the cobblestones.
ReplyDeleteI love these snippets of your father's art. You do indeed have a treasure.
ReplyDeleteOh what a lovely and proud crest this is! Nice detail and coloring!
ReplyDeleteI was here. but i was late and they said it all.
ReplyDeleteThat is a magnificent crest! Such detail. Glad you shared it here.
ReplyDeleteYour title reminded me of those heady Boy Scout/Girl Guide days!
ReplyDeleteThere were some very talented people out there on ships. As a fan of Antiques Roadshow I am amazed at the things sailors and other servicemen have created while away from home using the most basic items.
ReplyDeleteHope you are keeping your 'talents' on record for future generations to see?
Wonderful picture - very royal looking buck indeed.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous, whimsical creature. I know I would have liked your father.
ReplyDeletejinksy it would be nice to unpack the significance of each of the elements he chose to include wouldn't it. steven
ReplyDeleteYay! I live in Warwickshire!
ReplyDeleteI think the HQ of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment is just down the road from me in a museum. Or it used to be anyway.
ReplyDeleteMy son lives at Fowey. The Ship Inn is a favourite haunt.
ReplyDeleteDaphne du Maurier lived there with her husband Sir Frederick Browning the general who coined the phrase 'A Bridge Too Far.'
Fowey is a lovely place.Cornwall is my favourite, I think.
ReplyDeleteThe drawing and the badge are lovely. What an interesting man your father was.

Your Dad was born in Birmingham which is in Warwickshire and that is probably why he chose this crest, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy seeing your father's drawings. How wonderful that he saved them and that you do too.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteIt is an interesting thing to see with the drawing and the real item.
