"You can always tell a tradesman
by the way he keeps his tools."
said our art school teacher.
"It's one of the golden rules.
Buy brushes of the very best -
and they will serve you well,
if you clean them after use."
Who didn't listen? You can tell!
Thanks for your painterly Magpie Tales prompt, Tess, which reminded me of this very handy tip that I've always tried to follow!
Nice one, Jinksy, did you obey the rules?
ReplyDeleteNice! I always believe that it is how we handle our tools after using it that makes it more useful.
ReplyDeleteNice take!

I never leave enough time to clean my tools . . . :-/
ReplyDeleteNot just everyone would think of putting messy tools into verse.
ReplyDeleteoh but how beautiful the mess can be...true though as they are hard to go back and clean when you need....
ReplyDeleteOh Penny ... this is so true! Love what you did with the photo, a masterpiece.
ReplyDeleteClever take on the prompt...
ReplyDeletePerfect!
ReplyDeleteI listened, I promise!:)
ReplyDeletegreat use of the photo and a great reminder to clean your brushes
ReplyDeleteNicely done and very true! :-)
ReplyDeletelol.....so sweet, funny, succinct! I was too busy staring into Mr.Hart's (yes, that really was my old art teacher's name!) to follow rules! Ooooh - that mullet!!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah RATS! I forget sometimes! thanks for the reminder-
ReplyDeleteps....I meant his 'eyes' by the way!!
ReplyDeleteI still have a brush from my teen years. It is a makeup brush does that count? I paid a lot for it then. I wash it and still use it today.
ReplyDeletelovely-- imaginative use of the prompt! xxxj
ReplyDeleteNicely colored reminder. Brava!
ReplyDeleteEasier said then done. Great job.
ReplyDeleteWell done. Great blog. I'm new here. I'll be back!
ReplyDeleteThis is the cardinal rule for artists whose brushes are expensive. But even house painters will say the same thing and these brushes are the hardest to clean.
ReplyDeleteI need to hang your poem up at my house! Very nice.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem!
ReplyDeleteYes house painting brushes need the same kind treatment - sometimes I'm good about washing them quickly :-)
ReplyDeleteNice one!
ReplyDelete:) My 4 and 10 year old used my expensive water color brushes the other day to paint me an acrylic painting. It IS great and I do LOVE it. I was horrified, thought to find my $40 paintbrushes with kids paint all over them ... dry and ruined. I took many deep breaths... ;P And keep reminding myself I will cherish these paintings for a long, long time. I will post them on my art blog soon...
ReplyDeleteTrue indeed!
ReplyDeleteAnna :o]
Clever combination of creative flair on this week's prompt. I like it a lot, Jinksey.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah you brought back some art-room memories there :)
ReplyDeleteWe had a list of such (useful) instructions which had underlying meanings but I never understood them then...
Another bravura performance with pen and bamboo both.
