Puzzlement

This is just a quickie post, to which I may well (almost certainly!) add more later in the day. I am totally bemused, when I get comments appear as emails in my Inbox, as I requested, that the 'Properties' for many of them are listed as 'noreply-comment@blogger.com' - is this simply Blogger keeping a veil of secrecy over the proceedings, or do my answers to the comments thus marked in my inbox, never get back to the original comment writer?

Please can I get some feedback, folks? If you've left me a comment, ever, can you check your email inbox? I faithfully send answers to them, but am not sure about these 'no reply-comment' property details....
TTFN jinksy x

It's now afternoon, and the comments on and off screen a have given me lots to think about. I need to do a lot of dodging about to see who I can or can't email ( some of you I know well, anyhow!) and I think that will put paid to any creative juices I may have called upon today for a proper post - just leave me wallowing in fog for a bit, and maybe the winds of change will clear my take off runway for another flight of fancy...once the windsock shows necessary direction in which to proceed, of course.

More xxx to keep you all going...

  1. I haven't seen any emails. Yes, blogger hides the email address so if you want to make "contact" you have to leave a comment on their blog.

  2. I think I can answer that one for you Ma.

When someone leaves a comment on your post, its not them that sends you the emails you get. The email is sent by the computers that host the blogs and is really just a 'hey, someone posted a comment' notification to save you having to go back and check each post to read any comments.

So, if for example you were yo reply to this comment via the email notification you get, the reply will never make it to me because it has no idea what my email address is, I don't give that when I post a comment.

Same applies to any email you get that has 'no-reply' in the from address. If you do reply to it, its a bit like throwing a message in a bottle into the sea and forgetting to bung the cork in first! :)

Probably not the answer you wanted I know but this is how it is.

    Love and hugs.

  3. Oh dear, Jinsky. What Q said. Those comments you're seeing as emails are strictly Blogger notifications that you probably requested somewhere in the process of creating your blog. Occasionally some of these will show an actual email address, but that would be because the individual opted to allow it to be visible as a default during the process of creating their blog.

I choose to respond to everyone who comments with an additional comment on my blog, assuming they'll return (or subscribe to comments) if interested in what I might have to say.

If I want to see what folks have to say on someone else's blog, or if I'm expecting the blog owner to reply to something I might have said, I'll "Subscribe by email" to the post before I post my comment. That way, I can see everyone's comment after my own by just checking my mail.

  4. It's as they said above. Some people are so silly about sharing their email addresses, so Blogger makes it a no-reply thing, and when you reply to these they go nowhere. I don't know why people are so chicken about this as disposable email addresses are very available these days -- gmail, hotmail, yahoo etc. You can get one just for Blogger and dispose of it if and when you want to. Carrying on a conversation by email makes so much sense as opposed to having to remember to revisit various and sundry Comment sections, but most Bloggers refuse to supply theirs. It drives me crazy.

Ah ... you got me started. It's a pet peeve. One of my few.

  5. jinksy, just as you have done, I found out a couple of days ago that many of my email replies to those kind people who left comments on my posts have flown off into the ether! I did notice the 'noreply-comment@', but I assumed that since they weren't returned by the Mailer Demon thingie that they were going through to the recipients.

Vladivostock! I mutter furiously to myself! And apologies to those who never hear from me - please unveil your email addresses if you can.

  8. Your emails are arriving in various in-boxes here, and are very much appreciated, but you knew that already ;-)

(haven't been blogland much the last few days, too busy in and around the house)

    Hugs xx

  9. Well, I think I'm getting all of your replies to me, and you've received some replies to those replies, so I guess you knew that. I think it has to do with whether or not an e-mail addy is made public in the person's profile.

  10. I used to try to respond to comments by email until my husband pointed out the 'noreply' means there is no point in responding. All those noreply responses much be floating around somewhere in blogland!

  11. Aaaah, I hope the people reading this understand how frustrating this is! If folks would change their settings on blogger, when they commented on your post, you would get a notification that includes their email address. There's a couple of regular readers that I enjoy so much and would like to respond personally too, but they always come up as "no reply" :-(

  14. I can't understand it all, jinksy, either - Those foggy spells must be spreading north! x

  15. I am awash with helpful hints, but I would point out, it's very time consuming to have to scroll though a multitude of replies to comments on a blog, when a simple email 'behind the scenes' is such a quick and easy option. It only takes a tick in the 'contact me by email' box when setting up on Blogger, and it's even possible to use a special email address just for that, if you want to keep your main one secret...

  16. looks like I came in on the tail end of this, so there is little I can add - except a hug! x

  17. I have not seen any email. Blogger has had difficulties this month, trying to upgrade; failing to maintain. I understand on Th. they will shut down and clean up.

  18. I just come back here to check what you've written to everyone. I've never received an email. Jenni

  19. Oh gosh - I hadn't even noticed a "no reply" thing coming up, but I don't have my blog set to email me - I prefer to check my blog and to have all the comments there as then others can see them (although I don't mind getting emails as well) - I often find that I don't understand how all this technology works!

  20. I get a lot of emails and I reply to many. I seem to get replies to my replies too! I agree, it's not easy and very time-consuming to return to a blog one's visited just to check.I love getting the emails. But I'll watch out for the warning signs in future. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who's not SPAM can email me!

  21. It's good to see you having a quickie, Jinksi. Does that mean the same in England that it does in Canada? (no e-mail please, in regards to lewd comments)

  22. I don't have my blog set to email me. I come in daily and check the blogs I am following. I enjoy doing it that way.

Curiosity Cats can leave a whisker here...but not before noting, please, that I choose to have an award free, tag free, meme free blog. But by all means, talk to me by email - I love to 'chat'...
