Sky
turning
shade by shade
from black to blue;
so early morning
creeps from the bed of night
and tiptoes towards the day,
gently awakening the Earth,
as persistant fingers of sunbeams
prod reluctant dreamers into action.
turning
shade by shade
from black to blue;
so early morning
creeps from the bed of night
and tiptoes towards the day,
gently awakening the Earth,
as persistant fingers of sunbeams
prod reluctant dreamers into action.
Daily routines take control of our lives.
Like automatons, we follow them,
marching relentlessly towards
the inevitable end
of one more busy day,
and we look forward
to night, when eyes
will look up
at dark
sky.
Like automatons, we follow them,
marching relentlessly towards
the inevitable end
of one more busy day,
and we look forward
to night, when eyes
will look up
at dark
sky.
Good morning Jinksy. Love this poem; it's a great start to my day, although I should be into my 'daily routines' rather than dabbling in cyberspace. I'll add that I also enjoyed yesterday's veritable nonsense.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! "early morning creeps from the bed of night"
ReplyDeleteOf course, other days, late morning staggers crusty, confused and guilty from the bed of night... that wasn't meant to sound as lewd as it came out!
Have a good day. No, go mad - have a great day!
love it ..when early morning...tiptoes towards the day....
ReplyDeletei so LOVE mornings!!
have a great day!
Oh, this is lovely. Those precious moments before and after life's routines..

Beautiful and romantic - another wonderful piece of writing.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant Penny! I also enjoyed your previous nonsense poem. - Dave
ReplyDeleteAh, this must be a double Etheree. Clever you! You have something with mornings don't you? They pop up often in your posts. Nothing wrong with that mind you. Very enjoyable always ;-)
ReplyDeleteJinksy, you are a gem yourself! The words, the shape, starting and ending with sky...just so clever. Mornings are special to me and so is this!
ReplyDeleteSome days are diamonds, especially when we have something like this to greet us. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteCleverly done.
ReplyDeletePenny,
ReplyDelete"as persistant fingers of sunbeams
prod reluctant dreamers into action."
Enjoyed this diamante as the start to my work week after a nice long summer's weekend. Thanks a bunch!
This is beautiful, Jinksy! I'm so glad I found it in the morning. The top of your diamond is my favorite part, just as morning is my favorite time of day. It's very effective---the rising and falling of the poem. Well done.

Some days are diamonds, a few are duds. But they are all gems really. This is really great writing, Jinksy. How we wait for the sun to come up, live each moment to the fullest and go to be with the anticipation of another day.
ReplyDeletejinksy - i like this but the routine part - well there are features of days that are necessary but within each moment there's space for very tiny diamonds that can be beautiful in their own right. have a lovely day. steven
ReplyDelete"as persistant fingers of sunbeams
ReplyDeleteprod reluctant dreamers into action", such a very beautiful phrase jinksy. I love this diamond of a poem as I do so many of yours, very beautifully written.
Keep well x
You've certainly fallen for these etherees, Jinksy! And how well you mold the form.
